Natural Hair Recipes: Make Your Own Hair Gel in Less Than 10 Minutes
You guys know I love a good DIY, especially when it turns out to be better than what I can buy at the store. Flax Seed gel is one of those things. And to top it off, this all-natural gel only has 3 ingredients, takes less than 10 minutes to make, and costs less than a dollar per batch.
What’s the draw to flaxseed gel over just buying something in the store? Flaxseed gel has so many benefits for your curly hair. It combats frizz, lack of growth, and dry hair. Sometimes I get lazy and don’t make any of this fabulous gel for a while, but I remember why I love it so much as soon as I try it again. Let’s get into some of the reasons why I love this gel.
Flaxseed gel offers an amazing balance of moisture and definition. That’s because flaxseeds are rich in vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, which can nourish dry damaged hair. Fatty acids have been touted for their ability to provide moisture and make your hair shine. Vitamin E can also reduce scalp inflammation and itchiness.
The fatty acids in flaxseed gel promote elasticity. Flax seeds are also an excellent source of protein and help promote and maintain strong, healthy hair. One of my favorite things about flaxseed gel is the definition it gives my curls without making it crunchy or stiff. It holds my style for several days with no flakes. Also, because it is water-soluble, you have no gross product build-up. Sometimes when I use my flax sed gel for a wash and go, I don’t use any other products other than a leave-in conditioner. Talk about a time saver.
Have you run out to the store yet to get your flaxseeds to try this recipe? Not yet? Well, let me just recap all of the reasons you should try this particular product for your curls.

Now you can do this recipe with just flaxseeds and water. I add a little oil as an option in this recipe. Now you can make this gel even more luxurious by adding a little aloe vera gel or some other essential oils like argan oil or jojoba oil. Not sure where to buy flax seeds? You can buy flax seeds at any grocery store or drug store. I typically get mine from the bulk foods section at Publix, where I can bag the amount I want. You can also purchase flax seeds online and have them shipped right to your door. Make sure to buy whole flax seeds, not ground flax seeds. Check out the steps to make your very own flaxseed gel.
