For National Rum Day: A Trio of Mojitos
Happy National Rum Day everyone! Since i love rum so much, let me tell you a little bit about this awesome spirit.
Rum is a distilled clear alcoholic beverage which is a byproduct of sugar production. Rum is the first distilled drink in the new world to be released to the market, therefore it is older than any other type of spirit drink in America. The diversity of the rum category is incredible. It holds up well on its own. It marries with a cigar, a coffee, a difficult day or a celebration equally well. Which is probably why it is the third most popular spirit in the United States. Rum stirs up images of sandy beaches and brightly colored umbrellas in fruity drinks, or is that sailors and pirates? Either way it’s going to be a good time.
Today is your lucky day you get a three in one. I made 3 variations on the classic rum-based mojito: A Strawberry Mojito, a Blackberry Mojito, and a Blueberry Mojito.
Read on to find out how to make these bad boys into skinny mojitos; just in case you are counting calories.
What You’ll Need:
White Rum
Mint
Limes
Strawberries, Blueberries or Blackberries
Simple Syrup
Club Soda
All you need to do to change the calorie count for this little beauty is substitute the simple syrup and club soda for diet lemon lime soda, (Sprite, 7-up, Sierra mist, etc.) or diet tonic water. Its just that simple and tastes just as good to me.
